Everyone who has ever watched one of those television cooking shows has
already seen a wide variety of chef clothing. There have been the chefs
who are very traditional in their chef clothing to those whose chef clothing
is just a pants and shirt. For the most part chef clothing is anything
a particular chef wants it to be.
If someone is asked to describe the typical chef clothing the general
description would be the tall white hat and the white coat buttoned two
thirds of the way up. While chef clothing does consist of a hat and coat
there are also aprons and pants that complete the chef clothing outfit
Chef clothing starts with the hat. Most chefs wear some sort of hat. Some
of the hats are tall and drape over to the side but there are also short
beanie type hats that are designed to just cover the head. There are also
chefs who choose not to add hats to their chef clothing.
The next part and probably most important part of chef clothing is the
coat. The chef coat is the trademark piece of and chef clothing. Most people
will picture the chef wearing his trademark white coat, preparing meal
after meal. Some chefs have forsaken the traditional white coat but still
have added an apron to their chef clothing.
An apron is almost as important to the traditional chef clothing as is
the white coat. Even some of the great chefs on television sport an apron
as a sign that they are getting down to the business of cooking. The last
part of chef clothing is a pair of white pants.
White pants are an optional part of chef clothing. Some chefs choose to
wear the entire chef outfit including the white pants while others only
will wear the white coat but accent it with dress pants or blue jeans.
No matter what you think of when you think of chef clothing, from hats
to pants chef clothing has come a long way. So the next time
when someone asks what the typical chef clothing is you can more than more
than the chef wearing the full white outfit of chef clothing.
